Burlesque

After watching "Sweden's Got Talent" the other day and discovering a lovely Swedish burlesque performer, I decided she's worth a blog post. :) Some of you may know my obsession with Dita Von Teese -which is the person who sparked my burlesque interest- but this girl was really good as well. She gieves classes, too, unfortunately I don't have the looks but if I did I'd be straight in. There's just something about burlesque that I really like. It's classy. In the twenties and thirties, it was seen as really raunchy and is probably to compare with what strip clubs are for us today, but nowadays we're used to a different kind, more in.your-face kind of sexiness and burlesque is hardly provocative anymore. I remember reading a Dita interview once and her saying that most of the people that come to see her shows are women, and I actually wasn't surprised by that. Burlesque and what she does is flirty, sensual and fun and I can definitely understand why women feel that that's more relatable than putting on a pair of monster heels and start spinning around a pole.

Below is Duchess Dubois' performance from "Sweden's Got Talent". The song choice was absolutely great (the "perhaps..perhaps" illustrates the cheeky teasing and that "maybe you will...maybe you won't" element that defines burlesque) and I LOVE how she made that piece of fur sgradually smaller and smaller. Very classy indeed. :) And yes, it IS a talent. Not anyone can move gracefully and if you study her, it's all about the movements: pointed toes and fingers, posture, etc. Of course, there are always the odd few with moral "obligations" wondering "if this is what our kids are supposed to see on a Friday evening" but for God's sake, it's just bare skin. It's not like she's crawling around on the floor humping it. Relax.
